TWINSFEST 2025

TWINSFEST is put together to commemorate the 19th Century twins infanticide that took place in Nigeria.

The project is designed as an annual event to bring together twins and those of multiple birth all over the world to identify with their counterparts that lost their lives in the infanticide propelled by superstition and selfishness.

March 24 is observed yearly as the United Nations “International day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims”. Up to early 20th century, Twins and Multiple births (TMB) in some parts of Nigeria were believed to be children from the evil spirit. They were killed, in gross violation of their human dignity and right to life. Their mothers were not only traumatized by the sight of the children being killed but were also ostracized and banished from the home and community they once lived.

It is the considered opinion of the promoter of this project that the sacrifice of Love for humanity exhibited by Mary Mitchel Slessor that led to the termination and containment of the twins infanticide is worthy of commendation and commemoration. This project, it is anticipated, would form a veritable platform to further amplify the need for abolition of all forms of human right abuse and pursue preservation of the dignity of humankind.
